Driver Involved in Deadly Accident on Route 29 Scheduled for Trial
Amherst, VA - The driver accused of hitting and killing a Buckingham County man and seriously injuring a state trooper is set to go on trial next month.
Matthew Gardner's two-day jury trial is scheduled to begin on April 29 in Amherst County.
A special grand jury indicted Gardner for reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter after the April 2012 wreck.
State police say he was driving south on Route 29 near Galts Mill Road, when he hit and killed Freddie Perutelli and injured Trooper Dan Wilson.
Police say they were picking up furniture that had fallen into the roadway.
Civil suits filed on behalf of the victims claim Gardner was negligent at the time of the accident.
