Driver Charged With DUI After Car Runs Into Amherst Co. House

Amherst Co., VA - An Amherst County family had a close call Sunday night after the sheriff's office says a drunk driver drove into their house.

At about 9:00 p.m., the sheriff's office says the driver was going south on Route 29 in Madison Heights when he went across three different properties before hitting a car, then the house.

Public Safety Director Gary Roakes says the car hit the garage area and damaged some belongings, but no one but the passenger was hurt, and she had only minor injuries.
