Driver Charged Six Months After Deadly Crash in Amherst Co.
Amherst Co., VA - The driver involved in a deadly accident on Route 29 in Amherst County is now facing criminal charges.
A special grand jury indicted Matthew Gardner Thursday on involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving charges.
Police say he was driving south on Route 29 near Galts Mill Road in April, when he struck and killed Freddie Perutelli and seriously injured a state trooper.
Two civil suits have also been filed against Gardner on behalf of both victims.
