Driver Charged in Double Fatal Crash
Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg police say two people are dead after an overnight crash. Police say the two vehicle accident happened on the 7200 block of Timberlake Road at 2:13 a.m.
They say Amy Phillips of Bedford has been charged with a 1st offense DUI and two counts of DUI involuntary manslaughter for the wreck.
Police tell us Phillips was speeding and struck a vehicle on the right side. They say her car hit another vehicle as that driver was turning left into Legacy at Linden Park Apartments.
26 year-old John Hawkins and the passenger 26 year-old Garry Moore of Spout Springs were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
Phillips was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with minor injuries. Phillips is currently being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.
