Dozens Take Part in Salem Fishing Rodeo

Salem, VA - Dozens of seniors from a number of Roanoke Valley nursing homes came out to the 62nd Annual Ernest "Pig" Robertson Fishing Rodeo in Salem this morning.

The event was the third of four trout fishing rodeos planned for Lake Spring Park.

While dozens of seniors got to catch the fish, dozens of more volunteers lined up to lend them a hand, making for a great Salem tradition.

"It's about just coming out; everybody getting together, getting out. Being able to do something together every year. It's something the nursing home patients look forward to every single year," said Kristen Finley with the Salem Parks and Recreation Department.

Saturday is the final rodeo scheduled to accommodate children 9 a.m. through noon. The action gets underway at 10 a.m.
