Dorothy Campbell, Mother Of Martinsville Speedway President, Passes Away At 81
Martinsville, VA- Dorothy Earles Campbell, the daughter of Martinsville Speedway founder H. Clay Earles and mother of Martinsville Speedway President W. Clay Campbell, died Friday evening at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was treasurer of Martinsville Speedway for over 50 years and a familiar face to thousands of fans over the years in the track's ticket office. She retired from the speedway in 2004.
Campbell, 81, was born in Martinsville March 28, 1932 to H. Clay Earles and Mildred Warren Earles. She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and Perry Business School and a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Emmett William Campbell and a sister, Mary Earles Weatherford.
She is survived by a daughter Sarah Campbell Fain and husband, William of Ridgeway; a son, W. Clay Campbell of Martinsville, four grandchildren, William Campbell Fain, Mary Dorothy Emmett Fain, William Clay Campbell II and Alayna Jane Campbell; two brothers-in law, Pete Weatherford of Martinsville and Richard S. Campbell and wife, Sue of Schertz, Texas.
