Vernon Hill, VA - A Halifax County family's 200 pound dog saved them from the venomous bite of a copper head snake on their property in Vernon Hill.

As Leah Brown's children were playing by a creek in the front of their home, they noticed the deadly reptile. After they notified their mom, their dog Bo, an Alaskan Malamute mix rushed to the scene and took a nasty bite as he protected Brown and her children.

Brown rushed Bo to the vet where he was treated for his injury. He was able to return home later that day.

At one point, Brown considered getting rid of the "gentle beast." He consumes nearly $50 worth of dog feed per week and she said she just couldn't afford it. Now, she says she can't live without him.
