Deputies in Amherst Co. Schools to Calm Students After Conn. Tragedy

Amherst Co, VA - Amherst County Public Schools have asked for deputies Monday at each of the county schools.

A deputy will be on hand for the morning hours and again at dismissal this afternoon and evening.

The police presence is in response to the tragedy in Connecticut last Friday.

In a statement Monday morning, the sheriff's office said, "We are hoping this will have a calming effect on students to reassure them that they are indeed in a safe place and should place their full time and attention on studies, not worries."

Parents should not be concerned by this in any manner.
