Deadly Home Invasion in Prince Edward Co.

Prince Edward Co., VA - New information{}Monday{}on the home invasion that left two intruders dead and a{}third running off.

ABC 13 went back out to the scene Monday and spoke with one of the homeowners. She{}was{}not home at the time of the incident, but her son and her grandchild were. She says Monday, she's just thankful they're alive.

Remnants are scattered in the yard of this Prospect home from Sunday morning's fatal home invasion. Nearby business owners saw the commotion.

"The SWAT team was there all day. All I heard is that{}two people got killed and{}one got away," said Theresa Brochard, owner, Noah's{}Last{}Stop.

We stopped by the home where the invasion took place and talked to a woman who lives there. She didn't want to go on camera, but told us what she knew.

According to the homeowner, the intruders entered through the garage door, kicking it in. And if you look closely, you can still see an imprint of a shoe.,

She told us shots were exchanged inside the home. She says one escaped, through the front door. According to police, the other two were shot and killed at the scene.

Theresa Brochard owns Noah's Last Stop pet store, which is less than a mile from where the incident happened. Despite the recent crime, she still feels fairly safe.

"As safe as anyone can be this day and age. There are so many crazies out there. Look at what happened at Sandy Hook," said Brochard.

Brochard isn't exactly a gun proponent, but is glad to see that one was used to keep a man and his child safe.

"They were able to protect and you don't hear all the good stories about guns. You just hear the bad stories," said Brochard.

Police say the third suspect who fled is a black male in dark clothing. They say dogs picked up his trail, but lost it about a quarter of a mile west of the crime scene, where deputies believe he got into a vehicle on Route 460.

There are still a lot of questions including motive - why would these men be breaking into that home?

We'll be sure to keep you updated as details come in.
