Danville's Averett University Gets Closer to Starting Construction

Danville, VA - Averett University got some good news over their Winter break, that will get them one step closer to starting some major construction.

The University received a $200,000 donation from the J.T. Minnie Maude Charitable Trust.

All the money will go to build their new sports complex and press box on Averett's North campus.

Averett is now one 1 million dollars away from starting construction on their sports complex.

The university hopes to break ground in June or July.

"The sports complex we just want it to be, not only for Averett students and faculty and staff, we want this to be a community project. We're excited about local high school, maybe coming to play there, soccer, football, we're going have an eight lane track," Vice President of Institutional Advancement Buddy Rawley said.

The school plans to name the press box after the founder of the Trust, James Emerson.
