Danville, VA-- A Danville woman is on a mission to make sure the elementary school she went to, will always be remembered.
When Carolyn LaViscount heard that I.W. Taylor Elementary School was going to close at the end of this school year, she wanted to find a way to honor the legacy of the school.
Her main goal is to get a historical marker put in front of the school. She also wants E.A.Gibson and William F. Grasty Elementary school to get the same recognition.
"The schools were named after them," LaViscount said. "They were local educators and they made significant contributions to the local community, not just the African American community."
Her team is also working on putting together a publication with memories and pictures from people who went to I.W. Taylor.
