Danville, VA - With Christmas less than two weeks away, several communities will be serving Christmas dinners for families in need.
Danville has had a community Christmas dinner for years. This year, though, they really needed donations and volunteers...and the community came through.
Organizers say a local business donated $2,500 to rent a space for the dinner.
The group also got a $2,500 grant for food from J.T. Minnie Maude Trust Fund. All organizers can do is say "thank you."
"It's just an encouragement. I tell everybody that I have that the needs will be met and it's just confirmation, the needs are always met," said Community Christmas Dinner Chairman Cheryl Sutherland.
Anyone in Danville in need can show up on December 25 for a meal at 11 a.m. There is no reservation needed.
If you need a ride or meal delivery, you must register by December 17 by calling (434)-791-0001.Transportation starts at 9:30 a.m. and meal delivery starts at 10:30 a.m.
Volunteers do not need to call, they can simply show up on the work day, December 22 at Community Market anytime from 10 am until 3 pm. Workers will wrap, decorate, stuff gift bags, set up chairs, sort blankets, and hang up coats.
Other volunteers wanting to work on Christmas Day can simply arrive from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and be flexible to work where needed.
Items needed are:
Warm coats & blankets (both can be used, and need to be clean), and hygiene items.
Deliver the items to Majestic Cleaners, United Way, or Dana's Garden Spot by December 21.
If you have any questions simply send an e-mail to email@example.com or call (434) 791-0001.
