Danville: Traffic Safety Awards Ceremony

Danville, VA - Police honored seven people who were buckled up in crashes and that seat belt actually saved them from getting really hurt or even killed.

During the Traffic Safety Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, Chief Philip Broadfoot said officers were also included in the event.. The police department{}looked over all the crashes last year to figure out who would get honored.

"During the last 10 years we have reduced our traffic crashes by over 50 percent. That's a significant decrease in injury and in financial burden for a number of people," said{}{} Danville Police Chief, Philip Broadfoot.Others who received awards were Officer Regina Martin for Seat Belt Enforcement of the Year for citing 28 people, Officer Derrick Lancaster got an award for Child Safety Seat Enforcement of the Year for 60 charges and Lancaster also got DUI Enforcement of the Year.
