Danville Sheriff Dies at Age 90
Danville, VA - Danville's first sheriff has passed away at the age of 90.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Charles Smith, better known as Charlie, died late Monday night with his family.
Smith served as the High Constable for the city of Danville from 1962 to 1969. He was elected the city's first sheriff in 1970.
Smith helped build the current city jail and helped start up the Good News Jail Prison Ministry.
Visitation is Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. The funeral will also be at Townes at 1 p.m. on Friday.
