Danville Science Center Hopes to Raise Funds With Corks and Forks

Danville, VA - People are gearing up for the 7th Annual Corks and Forks event at the Danville Science Center.

The popular event has sold out the past three years in a row.

Workers at the science center say the money from the annual fundraiser is part of what keeps them going.

The Danville Science Center uses the money to bring new exhibits and maintain older ones throughout the year.

Officials say some of the fun activities at the center wouldn't be possible without this event.

Participants at this year's Corks and Forks will get to sample wines, enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres, and bid in a silent auction.

Administrator Annette Roncaglione says the money spent Friday evening will be used to keep the vision of the Science Center alive.

"The proceeds help us keep the doors open here, help us bring in traveling exhibits. It really brings in the money that we need to keep operations going here," Roncaglione said.

Since 1995, the Science Center has been providing a place for hands on learning and exploration for children, teachers, and parents.

"When you see the children here and see the parents and the grandparents here, you realize how important we are, because it's a real learning experience, but it is also a fun experience," Roncaglione continued.

Executive Director Jeff Liverman hopes the attendees and corporate sponsors like Danville Regional Medical Center, understand just how much their contributions help to keep educational programs in the community.

Because tickets are running out quickly, Roncaglione has some advice for folks hoping to show their support next year.

"This is a great way to not only bring in funds to the Science Center, but also to help recognize the community impact that the Science Center has," Liverman said.

"Buy your tickets early. It's a fun event. It really is. And of course, we are very appreciative of everything the folks in the community do for us," Roncaglione added.

The Science Center is in downtown Danville and is open Tuesday through Sunday.
