Danville Residents Fill Humvee With Food To Send To Soldiers Overseas

Danville, VA-- Folks in Danville gave in a big way to troops overseas on Saturday.

The American Red Cross of Historic Virginia held a 'Fill the Humvee Day' at Sam's Club.

Their goal was to stuff the humvee with snacks and personal hygiene items to send in care packages to soldiers in Afghanistan and Kuwait.

They received 1,800 pounds of items, and couldn't even fit everything in the humvee!

"They don't have access to the kinds of things that we can send over to them... the snack items, the personal hygiene products. So it meant a lot to us that we were showing them people back home supported them and appreciated their sacrifice," said {}Doug Eggelston, American Red Cross of Historic Virginia Regional Director for Service to the Armed Forces.{}

The 'Fill the Humvee' project started back in 2012. Since then the American Red Cross of Historic Virginia has shipped 8,800 pounds of food.
