Danville, VA - Some Danville nurses are getting the chance to go back to school. Friday morning, Danville Regional Medical Center announced a new partnership with Averett University.
DRMC pledged $360,000 to Averett's nursing program to provide 36 scholarships for current RN's to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing.
Danville Community College also announced that anyone who completes their RN program with a certain grade point average will automatically be accepted into Averett's nursing program.
Officials say they hope this will help with the looming nurse shortage projected by the Virginia Health Reform Commission.
"It's one more step toward continuing to improve the quality of healthcare in our region for everyone," said Dr. Tiffany Franks, the president of Averett University.
The scholarship program at DRMC will start in September.
