Danville Police Warn Parents of Halloween Safety

Danville, VA - Halloween is the deadliest day for child pedestrian accidents according to State Farm, so they have released some tips to help keep you and your kids safe.

Parents always go with your kids door to door. This study finds the deadliest hour is between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

If you have to walk in the street, stick to the far left, facing traffic. Police also suggest your kids have reflective tape on their costumes to make them more visible. If you are driving, go slow and put away any distractions.

Danville Police say another thing to be cautious of on Halloween is the candy your kids get from strangers.

"It's always good to check those things. If it's not something that comes in what we call a factory sealed wrapper, I would be leery of it. Probably wouldn't want to use it. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but you don't want to take that risk," said Corpl. T. Scearce, Danville Police Department.
Police say if you see anything suspicious, give them a call.
