Danville, VA - There is a winner in Danville's Decorating Trees for a Cause contest.
Every year different organizations have trees up at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research and the organization with the most donations wins.
This year the winner was the Danville Area Humane Society.
In addition to getting the donations from their tree, the winner gets 25 percent of the donations from all of the other trees.
Humane Society Executive Director Paulette Dean wanted to give that extra 25 percent back, though.
"Charities work so hard around here to raise money and they rely on donations and grants. We wanted to do it because it was the right thing to do," Dean said.
With the Humane Society's gesture, all of the organizations that participated will get all of the money that was donated to their trees.
