Danville, VA - Members of the Danville Hazmat team were on hand at a local fire station to train on how to deal with dangerous materials.
As part of a monthly course, firefighters learn how to deal with certain emergency situations.
Today the team practiced "flaring", a method for burning away flammable materials before they can leak.
"It keeps our, our skills up to date, it allows us to maintain all our skills, continue our education. We're trained on it and then we have to maintain the drills ourselves. So it's very important to keep our drills update, our skills up to date," said Chris Key, Captain of the Danville Hazmat Team.
The drill is only scheduled to run once a year, but all 30 members of the Hazmat team have to know how to perform it.
