Danville Fire Marshal: Fireworks In Dry Weather Could Spark Danger

Danville, VA-- All this dry weather recently could make shooting fireworks more dangerous.

Danville Fire Marshal Shelby Irving says without much rain, our yards are very dry right now.

When sparklers or sky rockets hit the ground, or even leaves, there's great potential for a fire. She encourages people to watch fireworks at professional events and also pay attention to your surroundings.

"Your neighbor might be doing it, so it might not hit his house and it could hit your house. Even if you find someone else is doing it, it would be a good time to go next door and kind of give them a little warning," Irving said.

Irving says to check your local laws to see if household fireworks are permitted. In the city of Danville, they are not.
