Danville Fire Department Participates In Fire Prevention Week

Danville, VA - The Danville Fire Department is starting early preparing for Fire Prevention Week.

Fire Prevention Week starts on Sunday, October 6 and lasts through October 12. In Danville, however, they have so many events, they are celebrating all month.
The National Fire Protection Association sponsors the week, and they have a different message each year. This year, they are warning against unattended cooking fires, which is the number one cause of fires in Danville. The Danville Fire Department says everyone should not leave the kitchen while cooking.
"To put out those fires, use a lid, we always want to smother it to put it out, take away the oxygen and the fire will go out. Call the fire department quickly," said Shelby Irving, Danville Fire Marshal.
Their first fire prevention event will be this weekend at the River District Festival.
