Danville 8th Grader Going to National Spelling Bee

Danville, VA-- A Danville 8th grader is getting a chance to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee next week.

This will be Madison Fuentes' second time at the bee. Fuentes has been studying two to three hours every weekday for the past year, and more on weekends to prepare. They can use any word in the dictionary at the spelling bee, so she has to be ready for anything. Still, Fuentes hopes this year will be easier than last because she knows what to expect. There are more than 280 kids enrolled in the bee.

"I bring my lists and my different rule books to school with me everyday to school and my friends might call some words out or they'll help me with studying," said Fuentes.

The spelling bee will be in Washington, DC.
