Lynchburg - Heritage basketball coach Dan Stephens is stepping down after 16 seasons guiding the Pioneers.
The 30-year coaching veteran led Heritage to the Conference 30 championship and region semifinals this year. Stephens won seven Seminole regular season titles, six Seminole tournaments, four region titles and took the Pioneers to seven state tournaments. He said he felt the timing is right, a decision he said has been a little bit in the making.
Dan Stephens said "You know I think the program is in great shape right now and maybe it's time for me to step back a little bit and to give somebody else a chance. And it's a good opportunity for me also just to explore other options and maybe spend some more time with the family and it just felt like the right time. We've had some great young men come through that have enriched my life, I've had some assistant coaches that were just tremendous and provided great support for me."
