SALEM - Dan River's softball season came to an end one day too soon. The Wildcats (16-7) lost to Page County (24-1) 6-2 Friday morning in the 2A state semifinals. Page County's lead off hitter Kate Gordon led of the game with a solo home run, the first of six straight runs for the Panthers. Dan River did not score until the 7th inning when Brooke Cassada and Madison Vogltanz each had RBI singles. The game got out of reach in the 5th inning. Nine batters went to the plate and the Panthers scored four runs. "They made the clutch hits and we didn't," Dan River coach Ryan Scolpini said. Dan River did not have a single senior on the roster so the Wildcats will have a solid shot at returning to the state tournament in 2015.
