D-Day Flag Carried Onto Utah Beach by Company B in 1944 Voted in Top 10 Endangered Artifacts of 2013

Bedford, VA - A battalion flag flown on D-Day back in 1944 has been named one of the top 10 endangered artifacts for 2013.

The National D-Day Memorial Foundation nominated the 299th Combat Engineer Battalion Flag earlier this year.

The flag was carried onto Utah Beach by members of Company B on June 6, 1944. It's badly deteriorated and needs repairs.

More than 181,000 online votes were cast for the flag.

A water works map of Roanoke from 1888 also was voted as a top 10 endangered artifact, as did an untitled painting by Minnie Ma Scyphers from the 1970s at the William King Museum in Abingdon.
