Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg organization is joining the fight against childhood obesity.
Central Virginia Community Services delivered boxes and boxes of gym equipment to students Friday. Dunbar Middle School is the lucky recipient.
The Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth gave CVCS the more than $5,000 grant. It includes new rackets, basketballs, and resistance bands.
Organizers say they picked middle schoolers to get this stuff for a reason.
"The idea this year is to really get students more active. Because when they come to middle school, they really start to want to be more involved in electronics, and sitting and texting and watching TV and all that stuff. Going out and playing outside isn't cool anymore," said Stephanie Martin, CVCS.
The equipment came from Play It Again Sports in Forest.
