Martinsville, VA - Dozens of people are already at the Martinsville Speedway hard at work. Stage crews travel the circuit to set up displays such as the Sprint Experience, Team Chevy Stage, and Geico Racing. In total, eight major stages will be put up at the Display Lot. Martinsville expects 60,000 fans to visit the lot and check out these stages.
Each stage takes about 12 hours to set up and then only four to take down. One crew member Abc13 spoke with says they have gotten the process down to a science.
"After doing it after the first year, the second year got better and that's when we figured everything out, how to do it repeatedly. We just write down the steps and train the new guys the same way each year," said Zachary Cole, Event Manager for Chevy Display.
Crews will start tearing down the stages during the Sunday race. Then they'll head to Texas.
