Cookout To Bring Former Employees of Dan River Mills Back Together Again

Danville,VA-- The Dan River Mills in Danville was one of the largest textile firms the in the South, and now in a way it's coming back to life.

The company opened in the 1800's and fueled Danville's economy by employing thousands of people. It's been closed for five years, but its former employees are getting ready to get together and reminisce.

Former Dan River mills employee, Annie Chandler, is organizing a big reunion cookout at the Danville Community Market on August 30 for anyone who worked there.

She spent 39 years at the mill and said everyone was like family,

"It really built Danville from the ground up. Everyone had a job there one time or another, and it was the place to work in Dan River," Chandler said.

The reunion cookout will run from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. and is free.
