      Commonwealth Games All-Star Baseball Begins

      Salem - The Subway Commonwealth Games of Virginia is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Games this year.

      Friday morning, the All-Star Baseball competition began a three-day run at Kiwanis Field in Salem. College and pro scouts were on hand for the opening skills showcase, the first game pitting our area West squad against the North began at 6. The West squad includes rising senior catcher Zach Duff of JF andrisingg junior pitcher Zach Hess of L.C.A.. Current big leaguers Ryan Zimmerman, Justin Verlander and the Upton brothers have all played in these games. Saturday's games begin at 9:30, Sunday's bronze medal game begins at 9:30 with the gold medal championship scheduled for 12:30.

      Zach Duff, JF CATCHER (EARLY COMMIT TO RADFORD), said "I mean I guess everyone will have some butterflies coming into this, but you've just got to think about hitting the ball, be the ball, swing, have a good time, have fun, it's baseball."
