Commonwealth Games Add Sports for Military Veterans

Roanoke - We're just over a month away from this year's Subway Commonwealth Games of Virginia. And organizers have announced some big changes for this year.

The games they call Virginia's Olympics, now in their 24th year, are expanding to 61 events, including a whole new category for military veterans. Virginia's Wounded Warrior Program has teamed up with the Games and will offer five sports to veterans including track and field and archery. It's another exciting step forward to getting everybody INTO THE GAME!

Virginia Amateur Sports President Pete Lampman said "We've got nine new sports this year with Crossfit and the strongman competition and cornhole in the parking lot of Tanglewood Mall. So some really exciting things to do this year. We're really excited about it."Olympic silver medalist fencer Tim Morehouse will be this year's keynote speaker at Opening Ceremonies July 19th.
