Changing of the President at Hargrave Military Academy

Brigadier General Doyle Broome, Jr.

Chatham, VA - A rare changing of the guard at Hargrave Military Academy Friday. After close to 15 years Colonel Wheeler Baker has officially retired as president.

Baker is being replaced by Brigadier General Doyle Broome, Jr. A 1975 Distinguished Military Student graduate of Georgia Military College, Broome is now the 10th president in the school's 102 year history.

"It's mixed emotions. It's time for me to retire, but I'm excited about my replacement. I'm real excited about the future of the school. But I'll miss it," Baker said.

"I knew when I got ready to retire from the Army that I wanted to be part of a military school. I graduated from a military school, and when this opportunity came about I knew very, very quickly that I wanted to be a part of the Hargrave team," Broome said.

Broome says his first order of business is getting to know every individual associated with the school.
