Lynchburg, VA — Those who knew him say Rev. Jim Moon was a quiet and dignified man.The man who co-pastored Thomas Road Baptist Church with the late Rev. Jerry Falwell has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 79.After Falwell founded Thomas Road Baptist Church in 1956, Moon served the church as co-pastor for more than four decades. While Falwell may have been the face and the leader of the church, those close to him say Moon was dependable, hard-working, and reliable.Serving as co-pastor of Thomas Road, Moon occasionally substituted for Falwell on the "Old Time Gospel Hour" television broadcasts. TRBC Worship Leader Charles Billingsley says the two had a friendship and bond that lasted their entire life, saying "To be able to watch that friendship from a distance, and know that these guys were quietly confident in each other's abilities, and supported each others backs for so many years, is a great testimony."A viewing is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6:30pm, with the funeral service at 11am on Friday morning at Thomas Road. TRBC Senior Pastor Jonathan Falwell released a statement to ABC 13 calling Moon "a kind and generous man who selflessly served his Savior and the church congregation".
