Danville, VA - Danville City Manager Joe King says more layoffs are likely on the way. Thirteen people have already been laid off this week in the city.
King says department heads were asked to figure out how to streamline their operations.
He says Danville faces a declining population and declining source of revenue.
"To balance the budget going into the next fiscal year and maybe as important, try to begin downsizing our organization so it can be more sustainable into the next year and years," said King.
City leaders worked hard to make sure city services would be impacted as little as possible.
The cuts came from the Human Resources, Public Works, Utilities, Community Development, Economic Development, Parks, Recreation and Tourism and, Police departments.
No police officer positions were affected.
