Christmas Parades and Events for Weekend of November 30

The Christmas season is kicking into high gear this weekend with loads of holiday events all around our region.

It starts Friday night December 30. In Martinsville, they're holding their Uptown Tree Lighting. That's at 5:30 in front of the municipal building.

Also Friday night, Downtown Moneta is holding a Christmas Parade, with a Christmas movie theme. The festivities start at 6 p.m., and the parade starts at 7:30 p.m.

And in the Town of Halifax, children 12 and under created the floats for tonight's parade. It starts at 6:30 tonight.

There's another parade Saturday in downtown Bedford. It starts at noon, and Angela Hatcher and Shelley Basinger will be riding in that one.

Lynchburg's Christmas Parade is Sunday starting at 5 p.m. downtown. Come out and see Noreen Turyn, Danner Evans and Dennis Carter in that one, and Nathan Norman will be the Grand Marshal.

In Danville Saturday, you can have breakfast with Santa! Free pancakes at the Danville Community Market from 9-11 a.m. It's sponsored by the Girl Scouts, who will also show kids how to make their own gingerbread men. Then starting at 1 p.m. the market is also holding its Holiday Market.

There are also a couple of Christmas Open Houses. You can go to Avoca in Altavista this weekend and next to see the lavish decorations there.

Point of Honor in Lynchburg is holding theirs Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. before the parade-- it will also be all decked out in Federal-era tradition.

Lynch's Landing kicks off its Holiday Traditions Saturday as well, complete with carriage rides and the Grinch.
