Christiansburg Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Deputy
Christiansburg, VA - A Christiansburg man pleaded guilty to the assault and battery of a law enforcement officer.
Steven Gurnee, 32, will serve two years and five months in prison. After that, he'll be on probation for five years and will pay more than $28 thousand to the company that paid the deputy's worker's comp.
The Commonwealth's Attorney says back in September, officers went to serve Gurnee outstanding warrants.
Sergeant J.Y. Collins found Gurnee trying to leave and advised him there was a warrant for his arrest. That's when they say Gurnee started fighting deputies.
Collins had a broken bone in his hand. The other deputy wasn't hurt.
