Danville, VA -- New jobs are coming to the Southside thanks to a Chinese company. Zeyuan Flooring International Corporation announced they are opening their first US manufacturing facility to Danville. Not only are they bringing 100 jobs over three years, this company is also investing $15 million in Danville.
With the signing of a contract, and a few clicks of a camera, Danville officially welcomed Zeyuan Flooring International Corporation to the Southside Thursday."There's a huge need for new jobs here. It just adds one more piece to the puzzle," said Joe King, the city manager.
While manufacturing wood flooring, they also should build up the local economy with 100 new jobs added over three years. Zeyuan becomes the second Chinese company to locate to Danville.
"I think we're working towards diversifying our economy, reaching out to all industries and China has been a great partner for us so far," said Lee Vogler, a RIFA board member.
GOK International already operates out of the Cane Creek Centre, and plans on housing Zeyuan until the company can build a 40,000 sq. ft. building behind them.
"They're interested in expanding their market in the US and this is a great location to do that from," said King.
King along with other city officials recently traveled to China to help recruit the company.
"They see the real people instead of just email back and forth. That build the confidence to come over here," said Andy Yang, Works at GOK International.
The Tobacco Commission gave Zeyuan a $350,000 grant to locate a facility here. King says the good workforce, resources, and reach of this market helped draw them to Danville.
"China is one of the few countries that's making investments in North America. So we've decided to be as competitive as we possibly can to attract Chinese companies to this region," said King.
The jobs will range in skill level and expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $20 an hour. They hope to be in their new facility and be manufacturing in a year.
