Charges Dropped Against Former Fire Chief

Fincastle, VA - A handful of misdemeanor charges against former Buchanan Fire Chief Billy Joe Carter have been dropped.

Carter had been charged in two different incidents this past summer that included an assault charge at the Buchanan Fair. Charges related to this incident were dropped Wednesday, Carter said by phone.

The second incident involved the alleged threatening of a Roanoke-area firefighter who spoke out against Carter in an online blog. That charge was dismissed September 27th.

Carter was replaced by former Chief James Manspile after Carter stepped down.

Carter says town and county officials, so far, will not allow him to rejoin the volunteer department.
