Boones Mill, VA - It's moving day for a historic train depot that, at one time, was just hours away from being demolished.
Dozens came out to watch the Boones Mill Depot head down the tracks to its new location.
For the past few months, volunteers and others hired to help have been getting ready for the big day.
Friday morning things started off slowly as more than 300 tons of gravel needed to be spread out along the route to make it as level as possible.
For preservation supporters the two-years it took to get to this point was well worth the wait.
"Oh it's great. It's really great to know that it's happening and it's going to be where people can see it and love it and get it fixed up and get the town going," said Shirley Boon whose husband is related to the town's founder.
Town leaders plan to turn the depot into a community center and history museum.
