Lynchburg, VA - Central Virginia Community College is doing more to help students transitioning from the military, into school. Monday, they celebrated the opening of their new Veteran Resource Center.
Veterans have been making use of the space since August of last year, but the center wasn't fully completed until this year. Veterans Coordinator Tina Murphy says the school saw a need for veterans to have a place of their own on campus.
"When they come to campus, they did not know where to go, and they had no place to meet other veterans. So, my office was too small. And by creating the resource center they now have a place to meet other veterans, and make the adjustment to being a college student,"said CVCC Veterans Coordinator Tina Murphy.
Murphy says the space is already being utilized. They see about 30 veteran students come through the center every day.
