Gretna, VA - They've certainly faced some hurdles, but Centra is finally forging ahead on its new medical center in Gretna.
Centra broke ground Wednesday on what will be a 50,000 square foot medical center on McBride Lane.
The 24-hour emergency room will be the first of its kind for Gretna. People say they had to travel up to an hour to reach a hospital before.
Centra officials say the facility will hopefully meet the community's needs.
The new center will have a heli-pad, two trauma bays, and board-certified emergency physicians.
"This community has been behind us, and they certainly deserve this type and level of care," said Site Administrator Shannon Knight.
Gretna based company Blair Construction won a bid to build the facility. They will begin their work on Monday.
