Cave Spring Wins First Ever Softball Title

RADFORD -- Cave Spring had never been to the state title game but experience was a non-factory in the VHSL Group AA final Sunday at Radford University.

Cave Spring (24-4) won a state title for the first time, beating defending champ Woodgrove 9-3. The state championship follows titles in the River Ridge District and the Region IV tournament.

The Knights' pitcher Taylor Asimakopoulos pitched all 7 innings and allowed just four hits to get the win on the mound. She also helped had two hits, including an RBI double at the plate.

Kylie Kent had a two-RBI double. Abby Beatty and Cortney Cooper each had an RBI double. Pami White had a pair of RBI singles. Alayna Francis had three hits and scored three runs. Madi Billings had an RBI single.

The Knights had 11 hits.

Cave Spring took a 3-0 lead and then saw Woodgrove cut the lead to 4-3, but then Cave Spring scored four runs in the 6th inning.
