Danville, VA - The Danville Area Humane Society had to euthanize a cat this week, after it was found mangled in a trap meant to capture wildlife.
Executive Director Paulette Dean says the cat was found Monday night in this steel body-gripping trap.
Dean says these kinds of traps are legal to capture wildlife that are a nuisance to someone's property. But she says there are many ways to avoid other animals getting caught instead.
"There are lots of websites where people can go if they're having trouble with wildlife, you can do a lot of preventive measures to keep that animal from around your house, we suggest you try that first of all," she said.
Dean says you can also buy cage traps. They are unsure if the cat was a stray animal, or if it had an owner.
