Carter's Call for November 18, 2011

The Hokies have done their job, now it's up to the Cavaliers to do theirs.

By hanging on and beating North Carolina 24-21 Thursday night in Blacksburg, Virginia Tech has made Saturday night's UVa game at Florida State a must-win scenario for the Cavaliers.

Virginia MUST BEAT the Seminoles to keep alive their hopes of a Coastal Division title. If Florida State wins, the Hokies clinch the division and spot in the ACC Championship game regardless of the outcome of next Saturday's Tech-UVa regular season finale in Charlottesville.

If Virginia does win Saturday, that showdown November 26 with the Hokies would be for the Coastal Division championship and spot in the conference championship game against Atlantic Division champion Clemson. Clemson is the only team to beat Virginia Tech this season, the Hokies would love to earn a shot at some payback against the Tigers.

So the UVa-Florida State battle Saturday at 7:30 on ESPN2 is huge. The Liberty Flames also play what arguably could be their biggest game in program history Saturday at 3:30 at Stony Brook.

This is a matchup of 5-and-0 conference unbeatens that will decide the Big South championship. The winner takes the Big South title and automatic berth in the playoffs, the loser has to call it a season.

Both Liberty and Stony Brook have never qualified for the post-season, that drought will end for Saturday's winner.

Enjoy all the big games this weekend. And if you're more the NFL fan, the Redskins host the Cowboys Sunday at 1.
