'Carols in the Stacks' at Lynchburg Public Library

Lynchburg, VA - Christmas carols took the place of whispers at the Lynchburg Public Library Thursday morning.

A holiday program called "Carols at the Stacks" featured local author Ronald Lankford Jr, who's currently writing a book about modern Christmas songs.

Local music duo Woody and Marcia McKenzie brought his discussion to life by performing popular holiday songs through the years.

"They've become a part of Christmas tradition. People love them because they remind them of when they were growing up, and they also reflect American values about Christmas," said Lankford.

Some of the most iconic Christmas songs, like "White Christmas," were first written and performed in the 30s and 40s.
