Videographer: Brian Vaughan

Danville, VA - Dozens in Danville came together to walk against violence Thursday night.

The event kicked off on Main Street with a candlelight vigil.

Participants were encouraged to share their ideas about stopping area violence.

Police Chief Philip Broadfoot, Sheriff Mike Mondul and City Manager Joe King and several other city officials were in attendance.

Participants walked from a local church to the Danville YWCA.

The event was part of a "Week Without Violence" effort.

Danville has been without a Domestic Violence Center for months, since DOVES closed, but the city does now have a temporary domestic violence advocate.

Karen Ingram will serve through court advocacy and community referrals through June of next year.
