Campbell Co., VA- The Campbell County Sheriff's Office will release information regarding a double homicide during a news conference Wednesday morning.
73-year-old John Philbrook and his 72-year-old wife Virginia were found shot to death inside their home on Sleepy Hollow Road on Friday. A major with the Sheriff's Office tells us investigators have been to North Carolina. The Philbrooks have family there, but that major says there had been no arrests.
Meanwhile, some of the Philbrook's neighbors have been talking to investigators.
The Meades and the Philbrooks had the kind of friendship that could literally keep you warm. 72-year-old Virginia Philbrook was a shut-in, passing the time inside her home knitting blankets for her friends, even for their little dog.
"She was in the process of making Ginger one," said Anna Lee Meade.
Sadly that blanket will never be finished. Virginia and her 73-year-old husband John were found dead inside their home on Friday. Investigators believe the last time anyone talked to the couple was last Tuesday. Anna Lee and Don Meade, the Philbrook's neighbors and church friends, might be some of the last people to hear from them.
"She called me last week," said Anna Lee.
Anna Lee says she and Virginia chatted for a few minutes on the morning of February 12. Anna's later calls to the Philbrook home were unanswered.
"I told Anna Lee there's something out of the ordinary going on," said Don.
"So we went down and knocked on the door and didn't get any response. That's when we knew something dreadful was wrong."
The Meades told investigators about the last time they talked to the Philbrooks. It's the kind of information the Sheriff's Office needs to establish a timeline. There is one moment in time Don Meade won't soon forget.
"She said John and I are praying for you all every day," said Don.
"That's the last words I heard her speak."
