CAMPBELL CO, VA - The Campbell County Sheriff's office has now worked the fifth homicide in the last twelve months.
Investigators have made arrests in all five cases, and the majority they say were drug-related.
A Concord woman was killed in July, James Payne was stabbed to death in August and John and Virginia Philbrook were allegedly killed by their grandson in February.
Investigators say the homicides have kept them extremely busy.
"We can go from having zero one year and we could have ten one year. So, it varies but this is a big increase for us," Investigator Billy Crowe said.
Investigators say a backlog at the state crime lab means solving these cases can take even longer.
