Lynchburg, VA - The owners of a Lynchburg gas station have a very important piece of evidence: Surveillance video of whoever plowed into their car wash Monday evening.
It happened around 7:15 at the Quik-E Mart on the corner of Wards Road and Sheffield Drive.
In the video, you can see a white Dodge pick-up with two men inside, knock down an estimated $50,000 worth of equipment with the asphalt roller it was towing.
The owners are asking for the public's help to identify the two men or the truck they were driving.
"It's pitiful," Todd Burgess says shaking his head, after watching the video.
He and his two brothers run the 12 Quik-E Marts, a business his father started in 1973.
"It's hard enough to make a living without having someone do this to you. And you have to foot the bill for it," Burgess said.
By Wednesday afternoon, Gregg Shotts was already busy repairing the damaged car wash.
"Mostly it's, believe it or not, in the middle of the night drunk drivers going through there, catching it, ripping it off and driving away," Shotts says of the car wash's he's seen damaged under similar circumstances.
By the time all the repairs are said, Burgess estimates it will cost $50,000 to replace it.
The Derecho took another big piece of their business back in July. They had to close most of their 12 stores for nearly a week.
"Loss of sales, insurance claims and what not has been tough," Burgess explained.
He filed a police report Tuesday afternoon and is waiting to hear if insurance will cover Monday's damage. But even if it does, 'I'm gonna do whatever it takes to personally get out there and find the people that did this,' Burgess said.
