Buzzing Oct. 12-14: Scaremare, Poplar Forest Races & Arts Show

Halloween is just around the corner, and one of our area's most popular scary attractions is back. Scaremare in Lynchburg is celebrating its 40th year of freaking people out. The fun-house rooms and scenes of death are supposed to make people think about life after they die. In the journey, you'll walk through creepy trails, dark woods and then finally the house. It's going to be chilly Saturday, but it'll still be a great day for run at Poplar Forest. Come out to the 2nd Annual Poplar Forest 5K and Children's Fun Run on Oct. 13. The courses are on the rolling hills around Jefferson's retreat. Race fees will support children's education programs at Poplar Forest. Those are $25 until Friday or $30 on Saturday.

In Appomattoxit's the Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival! Oct. 13-14- Main Street in downtown will hold the celebration for the Appomattox Depot. There will be a parade on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to kick off the event and fireworks at night. You can also enjoy live bands, craft vendors and train exhibits both days.

In Danville, Averett University is painting the town Blue and Gold for its Homecoming this weekend. It starts with the Hometown Community Party Oct. 19 at the Community Market. Tickets are $25 and you get steak from Outback Steakhouse and the Pizzaz Band is rocking the market. On Saturday, it's the Averett Cougars against Christopher Newport game at 1 p.m. Get more information here.

In Roanoke- it's the 25th anniversary of a HUGE arts festival. The Craftsmen's Fall Classic Arts and Craft Festival is Oct. 12-14 at the Roanoke Civic Center. Come out to see original work from hundreds of artists across Virginia and the nation. Just bring in a non-perishable food donation and you can get in for free.
